Since I started running, I’ve spent a lot of time raising money for two different charities.
The first is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. A group of friends and I do a 150 mile relay from Chicago to Peoria, IL every year to raise money for St. Jude and help fight childhood cancer. I’ve been doing this run since 2006 and since then, my teams alone have raised well over $100,000.00 and all of the Chicago to Peoria runners combined have raised over $2 Million. If you’re interested in supporting me, you can make a donation here.
The next one is my own charity, which I started with some friends in 2008. The official name of the organization is Pawsitively Famous, but these days we mainly go by R.A.C.E. (Short from Ran’s Animal Care Express). R.A.C.E. is a 501(c)(3) organization, which helps homeless and displaced animals find new homes, provides transportation to get them there and also provides monetary assistance for vetting rescue pets. In the early days, I raised most of the money for the organization by doing races and asking people to donate for every mile that I ran (along with doing other silly things like dressing up in a dog costume at CMA Fest). In 2012, we entered into an agreement with Miranda Lambert’s charity (MuttNation Foundation) that was beneficial to both organizations since our charters are written in such a way that we can provide certain services that they can’t and vice-versa. Our relationship with MNF has given us a pretty big boost over the last couple years and it’s been fun to watch our organization grow. Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like more information about how you can help out.
