Let’s face it – if you’re a runner, it sucks to have to wear glasses.

I got my first pair of glasses when I was six years old.  Within a couple years, my vision had gotten so bad that I had to wear them constantly because I could barely see anything that was more than six inches away from my face without them. I switched to contact lenses for a few years but developed an allergy to the solutions used to clean them.  So I had to go back to wearing glasses, which any runner will tell you is a pain in the ass.

I tried all kinds of different frames and lenses throughout the years.  None of them made any difference.  My glasses would always slide down my nose or fall off while I was running and the lenses would get scratched up during whatever other outdoor activities I was doing.  If it was sunny outside, I had to just suffer through the bright light and glare because the transition lenses available at the time were crap and I didn’t want to have to lug around a second pair of prescription sunglasses.

My glasses also made me look like a dork –

So it’s kinda fitting that I’m writing a review for xx2i optics sunglasses on the ten year anniversary of one of the best things I ever did for myself: Lasik Surgery.

If you wear glasses or contact lenses, I can’t recommend Lasik enough.  All these years later my vision is still 20×20 and being able to do whatever I want without having to worry about fumbling around with glasses or contact lenses has been amazingly liberating. I also like that when I go outside I’m free to wear whatever cool looking sunglasses I want.

This brings me to my new xx2i optics sunglasses, which not only look great, but have won a number of awards, including the Gear Institute’s Best Value award.  For good reason too:  There have been a ton of improvements in the eyeglass space over the last several years and xx2i has worked almost all of them into their designs while still keeping their products affordable.  No more heavy frames that slide down your nose or cheap glass lenses that are easily scratched.  These babies are lightweight and durable.  xx2i’s lenses are also polarized, which means that they’re specifically designed to reduce glare that’s caused when light from the sun is reflected off of water or a solid surface. This helps you see objects more clearly, and reduces the harmful effects of UV light.

Like I mentioned above, I got my xx2i optics sunglasses for free… but if you read on (or just scroll down to the bottom of this post – it’s all good), I’ll give you a discount code that you can use to get your own pair practically for free.

The set I got came with two frames, 3 sets of spare lenses in a variety of colors, nose pads, tips, a hard protective case and some soft cleaning/carrying microfiber bags and a screwdriver kit to swap out all the different parts.  It’s kinda cool to be able to mix and match colors on the different parts of the glasses.

I mentioned getting Lasik and not needing glasses anymore, which is great for me… But I get it that some people aren’t candidates for Lasik, can’t afford Lasik, or just get a little squeamish at the thought of having their corneas reshaped with a laser.  And that’s OK too because according to xx2i’s FAQ page, if you wear prescription lenses, you can send them a copy of your prescription and let them know what frames you want and they’ll make a custom pair for you.

As far as how my sunglasses actually feel: they’re super comfortable and lightweight.  In fact, it took me a few minutes to get used to them the first time I wore them because they were so light that it literally didn’t feel like I was wearing any glasses at all.  I’ve tried a few of the lenses and my eyes also feel really comfortable with the different tints, even when I’m running in bright sunlight.  And I haven’t had any issues with them slipping down my face.

So – comfortable, durable, lightweight glasses, cool looking frames, mix and match parts, polarized lenses, and the option to have them custom made with your prescription if you need to?  Can’t go wrong with any of that….  If you’re interested in trying a pair of xx2i optics sunglasses, head over to and use discount code XX2iRocks at checkout to get 50% off of your entire order.
